Registrants who hold a certificate of Academic, General, Initial, Non-Practicing, or Life, are required to renew their certificate each year. A certificate is valid from October 1st until September 30th of the following year.
Initial
The registrant has met the academic, clinical and language requirements for a general certificate and is working under the mentorship of a registrant who holds a general certificate and has at least 4 years of professional experience.
General
The registrant has met all the requirements for registration and has successfully completed the period of initial registration or has two years of professional experience in another jurisdiction.
Academic
The registrant is registered to practice to the extent required by the teaching or research requirements of the professional appointment in speech - language pathology and/ or audiology in an Ontario university.
Non-Practicing
The registrant has previously held a general certificate and is not allowed to engage in active professional practice in Ontario during the current registration year (i.e. October 1st to September 30th).
Teaching
The registrant practices speech-language pathology and/or audiology in another jurisdiction and has been invited to teach in Ontario for up to one year under the authorization/supervision of a registrant who holds a general certificate of registration.
Life
A registrant who has retired and is Not allowed to engage in active professional practice in Ontario.
Revoked
A registrant may be revoked for the following reasons:
Following suspension for failiure to renew their registration, and pay the required registration fees, a registrant has one (1) full calendar year to reinstate their registration. If they fail to do so, their registration is revoked.

Suspended
A registrant may be suspended for the following reasons:
Registrants are required to renew their CASLPO registration each year during the renewal period of August 1st to September 30th. If they fail to do so, they are first levied a late renewal penalty, and, on December 1st, those that still have not renewed their registration are suspended;
Registrants may be suspended by the Discipline Committee or the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee. Click here for more information regarding this type of suspension.

Resigned
The Registrar has accepted the individual’s written notice that they no longer wish to be a registrant of the College.
Closed
The exact reason the registrant is no longer active is unknown as the reason for a file being closed was not recorded before the electronic database was implemented in 2004.
